Women's Soccer Earns Critical Road Win Over BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rhodes College women's soccer team improve to 2-0 in Southern Athletic Association play as they defeated the Birmingham-Southern Panthers on the road by the score of 2-0.

The Lynx came out hot in the first half, taking 12 shots throughout the period to only three from the Panthers. In the 37th minute, off a corner from senior Addie Fargason, junior Kelsey Sweeney was able to get a head on it and put it away for the early 1-0 lead and what would become the game winning goal.

While holding the shots advantage, the Lynx also held and impressive 5-1 edge in corner kicks at 5-1.

In the second half, it was more domination from the Lynx, this time outshooting BSC, 8-0. The Selner sisters would put together a beautiful give-and-go as sophomore Emma Selner found senior Hannah Selner on the left side who scored her third goal of the season to put the game away at 2-0.

Offensively, freshman Sydnie Schindler and junior Sarah Rostamo each had four shots on the afternoon including two on target while both Selner sisters had three shots in the match. Senior Shannon Donelson also added two shots in the contest. Defensively, senior Chandler Kuhlman earned her fifth shutout of the season while picking up three saves as the Rhodes defense was excellent all game long.

Rhodes moves to 7-3-1 on the season and 2-0 in SAA play. The Lynx will go on the road this upcoming Friday as they head to Sewanee, Tenn. to take on the University of the South at 5 p.m. in SAA play.
