MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College field hockey team took on the Centre College Colonels at Mason Field in a rematch of the 2014 Southern Athletic Association Championship Game. Centre got a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to upset the Lynx and earn a 2-1 victory.
In a great back-and-forth contest, the Lynx jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half as senior
Evy Royther connect on her seventh goal of the season thanks to junior
Christina DiFelice's third assist of the year.
Centre found some opportunities to try and equalize the game, but Rhodes out shot Centre, 6-4, throughout the first half and took the one goal lead into the break.
In the second half, Rhodes seemed as though they were controlling possession throughout the half while looking for a second goal. However, late in the game, Centre made a push, scoring with 10:25 to go in the contest thanks to Julie Gates. Less than two minutes later, the Colonels took the lead as Hayley Barker scored to stun the Lynx crowd.
Centre was able to hold possession throughout the final eight minutes, earning three corners, their only three of the second half, and getting two shots off to kill the clock while Rhodes was not able to get anything going offensively.
The Lynx out shot the Colonels, 10-9, with both teams earning five shots on target. Rhodes also held the advantage in corners at 11-7. Junior
Mackenzie Busby and senior
Mary Rose Hazel led the offensive attack with two shots each.
Rhodes sees their four game winning streak snapped as they go to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in SAA play. The Lynx will head to east coast this upcoming weekend as they go to Salem, Va. against some tough competition.
