MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a thrilling five set match to Sewanee in Southern Athletic Association play before being swept, 3-0, by Texas-Dallas.
In a back-and-forth first match, the Lynx hit .168 throughout the match against the Tigers including 59 kills to only 27 errors while holding Sewanee to a .112 hitting percentage including 27 errors.
The first set would go to Sewanee as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the set. Rhodes would respond, eventually taking the lead at 17-15, but Rhodes responded by scoring five of the next six points including a four point rally. It would be enough to propel them to the win, 25-22.
The Tigers, again, were all over the Lynx, opening up a 15-7 lead in the second set. Again, Rhodes would battle back, scoring nine of the next 10 points to eventually tie the match at 16. However, Sewanee regained control of the set, taking the momentum back as they pulled out to a 21-17 lead and would eventually win the second set, 25-20.
Rhodes quite possible played their best set of the season in set three, hitting .310 with 14 kills and dominating the Tigers to a 25-14 win. The Lynx took a 12-8 set and turned it into a 18-8 lead as they played with confidence on the offensive end.
After a back-and-forth tilt in the fourth set, Sewanee took a 21-17 lead and look as though they would close the match out. However, three kills by freshman

Camila Zimmerman led the Lynx to winning eight of the next 10 points and forcing a fifth set with the Tigers, 25-23.
The fifth set was an exciting one, as both teams had mini-rallies throughout the set. However, Sewanee would take the final four points of the set to seal the match, 15-11.
Williams was excellent with a season-high 15 kills to go with 14 digs and two blocks while Zimmerman added 10 kills. Freshman
Ana McMullen had 33 assists as well as four service aces and freshman
Arati Joshi had 10 assists. Defensively,
Maraia Tremarelli had 27 digs and McMullen had 12 digs. Platt and sophomore
Gabby Gafford each had three blocks.
The Lynx would follow their epic match up with a non-conference tilt against Texas-Dallas. Rhodes would hold big leads in the first and third set against the tough Comets, who are currently receiving votes in the AVCA polls, but Texas-Dallas proved to be too much, coming from behind to win the match in a sweep, 26-24, 25-10, 25-22.
Williams led the way again with eight kills while Gafford also have eight. McMullen had 10 assists while Joshi added eight. Tremarelli had 25 digs while Platt had a season-high five blocks. Freshman
Caroline Perlis added three blocks.
Rhodes moves to 5-7 on the year and 0-2 in SAA play. They will look to pick up their first conference victory of the season tomorrow when they welcome Centre College into Mallory Gym at 11 a.m.
