Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offense Continues to Shine as Lynx Rout Piedmont

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's soccer team put on another offensive showcase while continuing to play excellent defense as they close the Rhodes Classic with a 3-0 win over Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon.

The Lynx move to 2-1-1 on the young season and have now outscored their last two opponents, 7-0.

Rhodes got on the scoreboard first in the 12th minute as senior Will Porter connected with freshman Richard Lucarelli who earned his first goal of his career and an early 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, the Lynx extended their lead to 2-0 as Porter again was in on the assist, this time finding junior Evan Wladis who found the back of the net.

Rhodes was dominant throughout the first half, outshooting the Lions, 8-0, and earning a huge advantage in corner kicks at 12-1. Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Wilkerson earned the start for the fourth straight game and held the Lions scoreless. Wilkerson has only played in the first half in all four contests and has yet to concede a goal.

In the second half, Rhodes put the game away for good as sophomore Matt McKeand found the back of the net on a beautiful pass from Wladis in the 77th minute. Senior Riley Sheen took over in goal in the second half and was terrific, earning the lone save for the Lynx.

Along with the excellent offensive play, the Lynx have gotten equally good defensive play from the likes of Porter, senior Paul Burdette, sophomore Garrett Durbin, freshman George Winfrey, and others who contributed off the bench.

Rhodes will prepare to go on the road for the first time this season as they will head over to Greenville, Ill. to take on Greenville College. Kickoff is set for Friday at 4 p.m.
