GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Rhodes College field hockey team won their third straight game as they wrapped up their road trip to Indiana with a 4-1 win over the DePauw Tigers on Sunday morning.
The Lynx move to 4-1 (1-0 SAA) on the season and have outscored their last three opponents, 19-2.
Rhodes would face some adversity early on on the Tigers home field as DePauw struck first to take a 1-0 lead, 14 minutes into the contest. However, the Lynx would respond midway through the first half as junior
Christina DiFelice knotted the score up on an assist from junior
Mackenzie Busby.
The Lynx would take all the momentum into the break as sophomore
Maddie Smith scored on an assist from senior
Evy Royther to give the Rhodes the lead.
In the second half, the Tigers would be the aggressor on offense, out shooting Rhodes, 6-4, but the Lynx were more efficient as goals from junior
Erin Best and Royther increased the lead to 4-1.
Despite 13 penalty corners from DePauw, the Rhodes defense held strong, blanking the Tigers in the second half for the victory. Rhodes had 14 corners in the game. The Lynx finished with three shots to lead the offensive attack while Busby, DiFelice, and Best all had two. Sophomore
Laura Eckelkamp had four saves in the contest.
The Lynx will return home to Mason Field this weekend as they have a huge SAA weekend featuring Transylvania on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Centre on Sunday at 11 a.m.
