Neitzschman's Hat Trick Paces Men's Soccer to First Victory

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's soccer earned their first win of the 2015 season with a 4-0 thrashing of the Illinois College Blueboys. Freshman Davis Neitzschman earned his first career hat trick in the matchup.

Neitzschman struck for his first goal in the fourth minute off the assist from junior Evan Wladis. Five minutes later, Sophomore Matt McKeand found Neitzschman who finished for his second goal of the afternoon.

Senior Alec Rhodes made it a 3-0 game in the first half with a goal in the 27th minute thanks to an assist from sophomore Mark Robinson. The Lynx took the comfortable three goal lead into half, outshooting the Blueboys, 5-2.

In the second half, both teams were aggressive offensively as the Lynx out shot Illinois College, 11-9, in the half. Neitzschman would complete the hat trick in the 79th minute off another assist from McKeand. After struggling to find shots on goal in the first two matchups, Rhodes had 11 shots on goal in the contest on Saturday.

Neitzschman has now scored four goals in only three games in the young season. McKeand had two assists on the contest.

Rhodes moves to 1-1-1 on the season with the victory and will return to the Rhodes Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon as they take on Piedmont College. The Lions took on Hendrix College earlier in the day on Saturday and played to a draw.
