No. 18 Rhodes advances to SAA Championships, downing Millsaps 10-4

JACKSON, Miss. – The No. 18 Rhodes baseball team completed the season sweep of No. 17 Millsaps College on Sunday in the semi-final game of the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament.

The Lynx carry on, advancing to the SAA Championship with a 30-11 record, while the Majors fall to 28-12 in 2015.

The hot Rhodes offense picked up in the second inning held strong throughout the game. The Lynx tacked on their first run in the second inning when Will Gietema singled through the middle, sending home Bennett Notesteine.

After the Majors added one run in the second, Rhodes worked in two runs in the third frame. David Balaguer singled through the left side to score speedster duo Ryan Olive and Bill Munson and post a 3-1 lead.

The Lynx offensive production continued in the fourth inning, with three runs after a Justin Genter base-clearing double down the left line scored three. The Lynx tacked on two more in the fifth, and a ninth run in the sixth for the 9-2 lead after a Majors run in the sixth.

Head coach Jeff Cleanthes' squad held on, despite single runs in the bottom of eight and nine, posting a Lynx run in the top of the ninth inning, holding on for the 10-4 win.

The stout Lynx offense was led by Notesteine who tallied four hits on five at-bats, including a pair of doubles.

Adam Putnam got the win in seven innings pitched, with five K's while scattering five hits.

Rhodes will face off against the winner of Berry College and regular season SAA champs Birmingham Southern College.
