SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Rhodes softball team picked up a pair of Southern Athletic Assocation wins over foes Sewanee on Friday.
In game one, the Lynx took an early 1-0 lead over the Tigers in the top of the first inning when
Christine Hume singled, stole second and was brought home by senior
Makenzie Martin.  The Lynx never looked back plating eight more runs over the next four innings for a 9-0 victory over Sewanee. Â
At the dish, Hume, Martin and Allison Long all went 2-for-3 and paced a Lynx offense that banged out nine hits in the contest.Â
Defensively, junior catcher
Rachel Pewitt and senior
Forrest Skelton were a flawless battery. Skelton threw five innings of no-hit, no-walk softball for her first collegiate perfect game.Â
"Skelton was in complete control of the game," commented head coach
Luke Wagner. "What I particularly enjoyed seeing...she wasn't trying to be too fine out there; she wasn't trying to record 15 punch outs. She stayed with her game plan. She allowed her defense to stay engaged and executed pitches to outs - whether a strikeout or otherwise. She did a great job today."
In game two the Lynx again struck in the top of the first inning on a Martin double that scored
Erin Parker.Â
Caroline Reilly would later single home Martin to bring the count to 2-0. Rhodes tacked on nine more runs over the remaining four innings. For the Lynx, Hume, Reilly and junior
Emily Cerrito all recorded multiple hits enroute to a 11-1 victory.Â
Christine Hume and
Rachel Pewitt both had homeruns in the game while
Caroline Reilly went the distance for the Lynx throwing five innings, allowing only one run while scattering of three hits.Â
Rhodes is back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to conclude the series.Â
