MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's tennis team took on Birmingham Southern College at the Dunavant Tennis Complex on Sunday, falling 7-2.
Starting with doubles the Lynx played tough as Wes Tolsdorf and
Sam Robertson got down 4-1 before bouncing back to 4-3 to get back on serve. After some close games they lost their set 8-4.
Battling two courts over at No. 2 doubles
Albert Vacheron and
Daniel Olivier dropped their set 8-3. With the Lynx down 2-0 junior captains
Eliot Blatt and
Greyson Brilliant were able to secure a point for their team with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles.
In singles Blatt battled at the No. 1 singles position to a 6-4, 6-2 defeat. Playing No. 2 singles Brilliant got off to a slow start down 6-3, 3-0 and battled back to 3-3 before losing the second set 6-4.
Oliver was able to secure the first singles victory for the Lynx with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. With the Lynx down 4-2 Vacheron was down a double break on court No. 3 7-6(5), 5-2. Having come back from the same deficit last weekend Vacheron was able to win two games in a row and put the pressure on BSC but was unable to complete the comeback.
On court No. 5 freshman
David Glenn got off to a strong start winning the first set 6-3 but lost the next two sets 6-1. At No.6 singles
Weston Breay lost the final match 6-1, 6-4.
The Lynx return to play next Saturday, April 18 for their last conference match against Hendrix before heading to Murfreesboro for the conference championships the following weekend.
