WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The No. 21 ranked Rhodes baseball team used a ninth inning rally to bypass Thomas More College, 6-4.
The Lynx improve to 14-2 on the season, while the Saints fall to 0-1 to start the year.
Chip Capper got the start for the Lynx pitching staff, where he threw four and two-thirds inning, striking out five batters.
Josh Olejnik came in to relieve, throwing for two and two-thirds innings, striking out four.
Thomas Beamish closed the contest, throwing one and two-thirds innings, picking up two strikeouts and his first win of the season.
The Saints posted a run in the fifth to get the offense started. Rhodes took the lead in the sixth, when
Justin Genter knocked a double to left field that scored
Josh Keen.
David Balaguer doubled in the same frame down the left field line, trading places with Genter and taking the 2-1 lead.
The offense kept rolling when the Lynx tacked on a third and fourth run in the seventh and eighth innings. Thomas more posted three runs in the eighth inning to knot the contest at 4-4. In the top of the ninth, the Lynx were able to post two runs, and bring home the 6-4 win.
The Lynx tallied 10 hits in the outing, with Balaguer and Keen each wracking up two hits, including a double from each.
The Lynx will be back on the diamond on March 10 against Webster University.
