JACKSON, Miss. – The Rhodes softball team split in Southern Athletic Association double-header against Millsaps College.
The Lynx improve to 6-16-1 on the season and 5-6-1 in league play, while the Majors are 13-5 on the year and 6-5 in the SAA.
In the first contest, the Lynx picked up the 12-4 win, with high offensive production. With 13 hits on the day,
Rachel Pewitt led the Lynx, going 4-for-5 from the plate. Martin went 3-for-5, with a double for both Martin and Pewitt.
Allison Long had a two-run homer in the outing as well.
Forrest Skelton went the distance in the circle for the Lynx, throwing all seven innings with three strikeouts.
In the second contest of the day, Rhodes just missed, falling 4-3.
The Lynx put the first run on the board in the third inning, when
Allison Long batted in
Caroline Sutton. The Majors tacked on two runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.
A big sixth gave the Lynx the 3-2 edge with a Skelton double to left center scoring
Erin Parker and a Martin single up the middle scoring Skelton. Millsaps added two more runs, with one in the sixth and one in the seventh to sneak out the 4-3 win.
Rhodes rallied for seven hits in the contest, with Skelton going 3-for-3 in the game.
Caroline Reilly had three strikeouts in the loss.
Rhodes will be back in action to complete the series on March 29 against Millsaps.
