MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 9 Rhodes baseball team swept the University of Chicago on Tuesday in a two game series.
The Lynx are the first team in Division III to 20 wins this season, and boast a record of 20-5 on the year. The Maroons fall to 2-5 on the young season.
In the first game, the Lynx took the contest in a 15-6 decision. The Rhodes scoring got started right off the bat, when in the first frame
Bill Munson stole home for the Lynx fist run.
Ryan Olive batted in
Justin Genter on the next at bat for the 2-0 lead.
The Maroons posted three runs in the second, but the runs only fueled the Lynx fire, as they added nine in the bottom of the inning. An Olive double got things started, sending in three Lynx runs.
Will Gietema single to left to trade places with Olive, and post a 6-3 lead.
Wallis kept the ball rolling, singling to center to bring
David Balaguer home.
Jackson Lourie notched a single of his own to left field for the RBI and 8-3 lead. Rhodes tacked on three more runs in the inning to leave the second frame with a sound 11-3 lead.
Head coach
Jeff Cleanthes squad added four more insurance runs in the third inning, with a
Marcus Moreland double to left center scoring three. Chicago added three runs in the fourth inning, but the Lynx held strong and secured the 15-6 win.
Olive and Gietema led the Lynx hit parade, tallying two hits apiece of the Lynx 13 hits.
Thomas Beamish got the start, throwing one and one-third innings.
Josh Olejnik came in for one and two-thirds inning, throwing one strikeout in rout to his second win of the season.
In the second contest, the Lynx took down the Maroons 2-0. Rhodes posted their first run in the opening frame when Balaguer singled to left field to send home Genter. Rhodes held on to their 1-0 lead, adding a second run in the sixth inning when
Nathan Foshee hit home Wallis.
The Lynx tallied six hits in the outing, with Wallis leading the pack, going 2-for-3 in the contest including a double.
Chip Capper got the start, and the win in five complete innings, featuring six K's.
Blake Glauben came in to finish the contest, throwing two innings and striking out two, in rout to his third save of the year.
The Lynx will be back in action this weekend in a conference series against Berry College on March 28 and 29.
