Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team knocked off the defending Southern Athletic Association champions on Saturday, downing Centre College,
Rhodes keeps their record untarnished at 8-0 on the season and move to 3-0 in league play. The Colonels fall to 2-6 on the year and 1-2 in the SAA.
The contest started with a Centre goal just three minutes in, but the Colonels lead was short lived, as Rhodes fired five unanswered goals to take the 5-1 lead.
Maggie Rippeto notched the first Lynx score at the 24 minute mark, with
Kendall Cunningham tallying the next two goals at the 18:02 and 13:40 marks.
Elizabeth Lewis worked in the Lynx fourth goal at the 12:54 mark, followed by Cunningham's hat trick score at 11:48.
Centre found the back of the cage, but
Lindsay Gess and
Morgan Fuller goals erased any Colonel momentum. Centre worked in their final goal of the half at the 2:28 mark, but the Lynx would send in two more goals before the end of the period. Olivia Holmes netted a score with 1:33 to play, and Fuller scored her second goal for the 9-3 halftime lead.
The second half started the same way the first ended, with eight straight Lynx goals. The scores came from the sticks of Cunningham, who netted three more goals, Rippeto, who also added three more goals,
Erin Gleeson, and Fuller to post a 17-3 lead.
Centre rattled off three straight goals, but it was a little too late, as Lewis added another Lynx score. Centre's final goal wasn't enough, as the Lynx brought home the 18-7 victory.
Rhodes outworked their opponents in several categories, including shots (36-22) and ground balls (10-4).
Sarah Daniels picked up all 60 minutes of play for the Lynx, grabbing 17 saves while in goal. The senior adds win number eight to her season resume.
The Lynx will be back in action on March 28 when they head to SAA foe Millsaps College.
