Rhodes drops close contest to Sewanee, 64-61

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's basketball team fell in Southern Athletic Association action on Sunday at Sewanee, 64-61.

The Lynx move to 14-6 on the year and 7-3 in SAA play while the Tigers post a 14-7 overall record and move to 8-2 in conference play.

The heated rivalry between the Lynx and the Tigers proved to be just that, with the chance to be the outright leader of the SAA race on the line. The first five minutes of play featured four ties and three lead changes before the Lynx were finally able to establish a lead by the 12:36 mark after a Drew Miller trey made the count 12-9.

Rhodes quickly worked the distance out to double digits, and with 9:06 to play a pair of Matt Wagner free throws gave the Lynx a 23-13 edge. Down the stretch, the Tigers pieced together a 6-0 run to pull within three, but couldn't get too close before Tyler Gee weaved through the lane for a bucket, and added two free throws to close the half, making the count 34-27.

At the midway point Miller led the Lynx with 15 points, shooting 2-5 from beyond the arc. Gee, Luke Collins and Geoff Livsey each added four points to Rhodes totals. The Tigers were led by Clay Born who had five, with Jorden Williams, Brody Stone, Marcellus Caldwell and Seth Brown all with four points apiece.

The Tigers came out firing in the second half, knocking down two quick threes. Brennan Sullivan had the answer, with a pair of trey's of his own, coupled with a Livsey lay-in that gave the Lynx a 42-33 advantage with 14:21 to play.

The Tigers continued to charge, and by the 8:45 make the Tigers had regained the lead with the help of a 13-0 run, posting a score of 50-44.The Lynx worked the deficit down to just two points, after a Miller three with 57 seconds to play made the count 60-58.
