Rhodes falls on road to Centre, 59-43

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Rhodes women's basketball team couldn't overcome a strong start by Centre College on Friday night, falling on the road in Southern Athletic Association action, 59-43.
 
The Lynx fall to 13-7 on the year and 4-5 in conference play, while the Colonels improve to 8-11 and 4-5 in the SAA.
 
Centre came out strong, scoring 16 unanswered points to open the contest. Rhodes netted its first bucket at the 10:24 mark when Sarah Johnson cut through the lane for a layup to make the count 21-4.
 
The Lynx worked to erase the early deficit, and after a 6-0 run, fueled by baskets from Symone Daniels, Erin Deery and Dy'Nelle Todman, cut the lead to 30-20 by the 2:46 mark.
 
Johnson knocked down a trey down the stretch, as the Lynx went into the half, trailing 35-23.
 
At the break, the Lynx were led by Johnson who netted nine points and picked up three rebounds. Todman added five points by the midway mark, and four rebounds. On the Colonels side, Alexis Guy notched 14 points and picked up five rebounds.
 
Centre shot 42.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc. Rhodes posted 29.0 percent shooting from the field, and knocked down two, three-pointers.
 
To open the second half, the Lynx went back to work, chipping away at the Centre lead. After a pair of three's from Hannah Orth and Blaire Smith at the 12:52 mark, Rhodes cut the Colonels lead to single digits at 40-31.
 
The Lynx couldn't mount a big enough comeback to overcome the Colonels, falling 59-43.
 
Johnson finished the night with 17 points, six rebounds three assists and two steals to lead the Lynx. Daniels scored six for the Lynx, and grabbed five rebounds. Rhodes shot 29.3 percent from the field and picked up six team steals in the outing.
 
The Colonels were led by Guy, who netted 16 points, and grabbed eight rebounds. Maggie Hartlage scored 10 points and picked up nine rebounds in the outing. Centre shot 42.0 percent from the field, and 31.6 percent from three point range.
 
Rhodes will be back in action on Feb. 8 at Sewanee.
