Rhodes drops double header to Case Western

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday by the hands of Case Western Reserve University, 11-2 and 8-7.

The Lynx fall to 1-9 on the season while the Spartans improve to 2-0 on the year.

In the first contest things got off to a strong start with a Rachel Pewitt home run in the first that scored two, and gave the Lynx an early 2-0 lead. That lead however was short lived, as Case Western posted three runs in the second frame to take the 3-2 lead. Rhodes couldn't muster a comeback, and eventually fell 11-2.

Forrest Skelton got the start in the circle for the Lynx, throwing the complete five innings.

In the second matchup, Rhodes just missed, falling by a count of 8-7. Caroline Reilly picked up the start for the Lynx, throwing seven full innings, featuring one strikeout.

On the offensive side, the Lynx bats got going as they tallied 10 hits. Erin Parker and Makenzie Martin lead the way with two hits apiece, and Christine Hume powered a triple in the seventh inning.

Case martin pulled out to the early 2-0 lead. Martin notched one of her hits in the third inning, scoring Caroline Sutton to make the count 2-1. The Spartans added six runs between the fifth and sixth innings combined.  Rhodes looked to mount a comeback in the final inning, with the rally beginning with the Hume triple that scored Parker and Sutton. The Lynx were able to tack on six runs, but their efforts ultimately fell just short, posting an 8-7 loss.

The Lynx will be back in action on March 1 as they continue the series against the Spartans at 10 a.m.
