Rhodes pitches shutout of No. 3 Emory, 5-0

JACKSON, Miss. – The Rhodes baseball team shutout No.3 ranked Emory University on Saturday, 5-0.

The Lynx improve to 7-2 on the year, while the Eagles pick up their first loss in 2015, falling to 5-1 on the season.

The Rhodes pitching staff picked up a huge win, with Blake Glauben getting the start, and his third win of the season. In the juniors' six complete innings of work, he struck out two batters and only allowed three hits. Daniel Morris finished the final three innings of play, earning the save while striking out three, only giving up one hit.

Rhodes provided balanced offense to notch their five runs, with the first score posted in the third inning. Justin Genter scored Josh Keen on a hard hit ball to the short stop to take an early 1-0 lead.

A big fourth frame for the Lynx added three more runs. Jackson Lourie got things started with a single to left field, scoring Will Gietema. On the next at-bat Nathan Foshee hit a double to left center, which brought home Lourie. Marcus Moreland added the final run of the inning when he knocked a hard hit ball through the short stop to score Foshee for the 4-0 lead.

The Lynx tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Genter laid a sacrifice bund, sending Bill Munson home. The 5-0 score would stand, as the Lynx brought home the win.

Head coach Jeff Cleanthes squad tallied eight hits in the contest, with Munson and Andrew Wallis leading the way with two apiece.

Rhodes will be back in action at home on Feb. 28 when they open Southern Athletic Association play against Centre College.
