JACKSON, Miss. – The Rhodes baseball team picked up a late win over Fontbonne University on Friday, 8-3.
The Lynx improve to 6-2 on the year, while the Griffins fall to 0-2 to begin the season.
The contest, which was slated to start at 7 p.m. was pushed back due to delayed play, and the first pitch was thrown out after 10 p.m.
The Rhodes offense got things going right off the bat, scoring two runs in the second inning, and three more in the third frame. The Griffins scored three runs in the fourth, but could never match the Lynx output. Rhodes tacked on three more runs, with two in the seventh and one in the eighth to solidify the win.

Jeff Cleanthes squad notched 12 hits in the outing, with
Andrew Wallis leading the way with three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Ryan Olive, who knocked two hits, hit a power shot to center field for a triple.
On the hill for the Lynx,
Chip Capper got the start, throwing for four complete innings where he struck out two batters.
Josh Olejnik came in to relieve in the fifth inning and picked up his first win of the season in five complete innings pitched. The senior threw four strikeouts and only allowed one hit.
Rhodes is set to face off against No. 3 Emory University in their next match up, Saturday Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. in Jackson, Miss. to wrap up the weekend.
