Game Recap: Softball |

Rhodes narrowly misses against No. 16 Emory, Lynchburg

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Rhodes softball team fell in close contests to No. 16 Emory University and Lynchburg College on Sunday.

The Lynx fall to 1-7 on the year.

In the first matchup of the day, Rhodes fell to No. 16 ranked Emory, 5-2.

Rhodes notched six hits in the contest, with a host of Lynx picking up hits.

Rhodes picked up their first run in the fourth inning, when a big Rachel Pewitt double to center field put her on base. Makenzie Martin hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Pewitt, and giving Rhodes its first run.

The Lynx aimed to mount a rally, and on an Erin Parker single to the short stop, Danielle Smith posted the Lynx second run. The rally fell just short, and the Lynx fell also, 5-2.

Caroline Reilly went the distance for the Lynx in the circle, throwing for all six innings.

In the second matchup of the day, the Lynx again just missed, falling 1-0.

Sound pitching from Forrest Skelton took the Lynx through seven innings, with three strikeouts for the senior.

Rhodes wracked up three hits in the outing, with Parker, Skelton and Smith each tallying a hit.

The Hornets put up one run in the opening frame, and the single scored proved too much for the Lynx to overcome.
Rhodes will be back in action at home on Feb. 21 when they host Case Western Reserve University and Huntingdon College in a tri-match.
