ATLANTA, Ga. – The Rhodes softball team had a slow start to the Emory University Tournament on Saturday, falling to No. 18 ranked Emory University 10-0 and Lynchburg College 10-4.
In the first contest of the day, the Lynx faced a tough Eagles pitching staff, as Rhodes was unable to notch a hit against the No. 18 ranked team.
Forrest Skelton got the start for the Lynx, where she threw for four complete innings and struck out two batters.
In the Lynx second contest, the offense got going, as Rhodes posted a 3-1 lead by the third inning, after a pair of homers, with
Rachel Pewitt knocking one over the center field fence for a solo home run in the second, and
Caroline Reilly blasting a two-run homer over the left field fence in the third.
A six run third for the Hornets erased the Lynx lead, and a Rhodes rally in the seventh fell short after
Makenzie Martin hit a bomb over the left fence to make the final count 10-4.
Reilly was in the circle for the duration of the contest, throwing six innings, while striking out one batter.
Rhodes falls to 1-5 on the season while Emory improves to 1-0 on the year and Lynchburg posts a 1-0 record.
Rhodes will be back in action on Feb. 15 against the same competition in the final day of the Emory University Tournament.
