BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rhodes College track and field teams opened their 2015-16 indoor season with a partial squad at the Panther Indoor Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern College.
Senior
Jeremy Phillips and sophomore
Renn Eason both posted outstanding marks for the Lynx. Phillips, an outdoor All-American last year in the 100-meter Dash, ran 6.93 in the 60-meter dash and 22.15 in the 200-meter dash. His 60-meter performance established a new school record.
Eason, an outdoor national qualifier from last season, also wasted no time placing his mark on the record books by tying the 17-year old record in the high jump with an incredible leap of 2.10 meters (6'10.75"). Both athletes are in a strong position to qualify for the 2016 indoor National Championship meet in March.
Other strong performances for the men include Junior
Sam Allen in the 60-mete dash (7.14) and 200-meter dash (23.49). Senior
Andrew Kadesky had a solid opener in the pole vault with a leap of 4.00 meters (13'1.5").
For the women, sophomore Bri Hardeman (2015 national qualifier in the 100) opened the season on a strong note by posting an indoor personal best in the 200 (25.93) and 60 (7.89). Junior
Kira Curry also had a solid opener in the shot put (37'1") and the 20 lb weight throw (36'5").
The Lynx will return to Birmingham with full squads when they participate in the CrossPlex Invitational on January 24th.
