MEMPHIS - After falling behind 2-0, Rhodes would not trail again, dominating from start-to-finish in an 86-48 win win over Rust College to snap a two game skid on Tuesday evening at Mallory Gymnasium.
Rhodes was red hot from the field, shooting 32-of-60 (53.3%) from the field and 7-for-15 (46.7%) from deep. The Lynx also used tough defense as Rust shot 20-fro-70 (28.6%) from the field and 0-for-16 from three. Rhodes outrebounded the Bearcats, 50-36, and won the turnover battle, 19-18. Rhodes also scored 48 points in the paint and 36 points off the bench.
After trailing 2-0, Rhodes went on a 14-0 run to start the game behind six points from junior
Daniel Galvin and four points from sophomore
Keyshawn Butts. The Lynx used big runs all throughout the first half to push their lead as high as 21 as they cruised to a 42-23 first half lead behind 10 points from junior
Tyler Gee.
In the second half, Rhodes kept their foot on the pedal, using great defense to stiffle the Bearcats as they consistently forced turnovers and tough shots. Rhodes would be able to empty its bench and finished the game on a 14-3 run for the 38-point victory.
Gee led the way with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and a career-high seven steals to go with seven rebounds. Butts added 12 points and five assists while Galvin had 10 points and seven boards. Junior
Ian Harrison came off the bench to score nine points and team-leading 10 rebounds while junior
JJ Weir and sophomore
Andrew Lowrie each had five assists.
Off the bench, Lowrie had eight points and freshman
Daniel Darst added eight. Sophomore
Price Dalton had five points while freshmen
Will McIntyre and
James Hayes each had three.
For Rust, O'Darius Lowe led the way with seven points and 10 boards while Ryan Wilkins, LaDarius Waits, and Allen Potts all had eight points.
Rhodes moves to 5-4 on the season and will take on Emory & Henry tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. The Wasps played earlier at Mallory Gym, defeating SAA-rival Hendrix College, 73-63.
