MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start, playing catch-up all game long as they would eventually fall to the Emory & Henry Wasps, 78-68, at Mallory Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lynx have shot well this season, leading the conference with a 46.4 field goal percentage, but struggled in this contest, going 24-for-54 (44.4%) from the field, but shot well from deep, going 6-for-14 (42.9%). However, they could not slow down the hot-shooting Wasps as they went 28-for-55 (50.9%) from the field and 7-for-13 (53.8%) from three. Rhodes struggled with turnovers, giving up the ball 20 times, but did force 19 takeaways.
The bench ended up being the biggest difference for Emory & Henry, outscoring Rhodes, 42-21.
The Lynx were slow out of the gates, turning the ball over seven times in the first five minutes and falling behind, 17-4, over six minutes into the first half. Rhodes would respond; however, going on a 18-4 run throughout the next five minutes to make it a 23-21 game. The duo of junior

Brennan Sullivan Emory & Henry would close the half outscoring Rhodes, 17-11, to take a 40-32 lead at the break.
In the second half, Rhodes would consistently push within striking distance, but the Wasps constantly had an answer to keep the lead around 10 throughout the second half. The Lynx would make one final push towards the end of the game, but it would not be enough as Emory & Henry escaped Memphis with a big road win.
Sullivan was terrific, finishing with 21 points including four threes. Junior
Daniel Galvin added 13 points while Gee had nine points, 10 boards, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore
Keyshawn Butts led the defensive effort with four steals while junior
JJ Weir had three steals and two blocked shots. Junior
Andrew Lowrie had nine points off the bench while Darst added eight and two steals.
For the Wasps, Clif Conley scored 14 points off the bench while Chase Branscomb added 13 points.
The Lynx sit at 5-5 on the year and will have a quick turnaround this weekend, remaining at Mallory Gymnasium as they host the New-Year Classic with Rust College, UC-Santa Cruz, and third-ranked Amherst. The Lynx will battle the Banana Slugs on Saturday at 3 p.m.
