Deery Sets Career-High as Women's Hoops Routs MacMurray

MEMPHIS - Sophomore Erin Deery set a new career-high in point scored, leading the Rhodes College women's basketball team with 16 points off the bench on Sunday afternoon as they defeated MacMurray College, 83-67.

It was ugly at times, but the Lynx move over .500 as they move into 2016.

Rhodes shot 27-for-70 (38.6%) from the field including 5-for-19 (26.3%) from three. The Lynx were able to get to the free throw line 39 times, but only converted 14 times. The Lynx dominated the turnover battle, 26-11, including 19 steals, and outrebounded the Highlanders, 47-42 while pulling down 20 offensive boards.

Similar to their last game, Rhodes got off to a slow start, falling behind, 10-4, to MacMurray, who came strong out of the gate with a ton of energy. Down 12-6, the Lynx ended the quarter on a 10-0 run thanks to buckets from senior Symone Daniels, freshman Danielle Summers, junior Bailey Kramer, and Deery.

The second quarter would be the big quarter for the Lynx, outscoring the Highlanders 25-15. The quarter would be highlighted by another 10-0 run, this time coming in the middle of the quarter, to push the Lynx lead to double digits for this first time in the game. Deery pitched in five points during the run while Summers and fellow freshman Sara Giesen each added a bucket. The Lynx would hold a 41-27 advantage at the break.

Deery was huge in the third quarter, leading the Lynx with seven points as Rhodes would push their lead as high as 22. MacMurray would make a run towards the end of the quarter and tried to mount a comeback in the fourth, but it would not be enough as the Lynx were too tough and picked up their third consecutive victory.

Along with Deery, junior Blaire Smith had a huge game, going for 12 points, five assists, three steals, and three blocks. Deery would also add three steals on the afternoon. Kramer finished with a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards while senior Catherine Eckert added 11 points and three steals. Daniels was also in double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds. Summers added six assists.

For MacMurray, Brianna Markusic led the way with 19 points and five blocks while Kayla Horlacher and Liz Krummelbein each had 11 points.

Rhodes sits at 6-5 overall and will be off until we move into 2016. Their next matchup will take place on January 4th as they head to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Emory University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. ET as it will be the final non-conference game of the season.
