CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College women's basketball team could not overtime a seven point halftime deficit as they would fall to the Hendrix Warriors in their Southern Athletic Association opener, 76-63.
Rhodes shot 22-for-53 (41.5%) from the field and 3-for-12 (25.0%) from behind the arch. The Lynx had 18 turnovers on the evening, but were able to force 17 Hendrix turnovers. The Warriors shot well on their home floor, 26-for-53 (49.1%) from the field and 3-of-11 (27.1%) from three.
The two teams were back-and-forth in the first quarter as the Warriors took a 15-13 lead at the end of the period. However, and 8-0 run by Hendrix to start the second period pushed their lead out to 10 as they took a 34-26 lead into half.
The Warriors again opened a period on a big run as they went on a 9-0 run to start the third quarter to move out to a 17 point lead early in the second half.
Rhodes would not go down quietly, as the duo of seniors
Symone Daniels and
Catherine Eckert pushed the Lynx back into the game. Towards the end of the third period, the Lynx got the game down to a seven. Hendrix would push their lead back to 10 as the game moved into the fourth period.
Rhodes again moved within seven to start the quarter, but an 8-0 run by Hendrix would be too much for the Lynx as they eventually fell by 13.
Daniels notched a double-double, going for 14 points and 10 rebounds while Eckert added 14 points as well. Junior
Bailey Kramer added eight points while junior
Blaire Smith picked up six points and seven assists. Defensively, sophomore
Jessie Ustick finished with two steals on the evenins. For Hendrix, Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led all scorers with 20 while Sara Dyslin had 19 points and 12 boards.
Rhodes falls to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in SAA play. It doesn't get any either for the Lynx as they head to St. Louis, Mo. for the Washington University Classic. They will take on the 11th-ranked Bears on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
