MEMPHIS - After a slow first quarter which saw the Rhodes College women's basketball team down 18-15 to Rust College, the Lynx proceeded to outscore the Bearcats, 58-36, throughout the next 30 minutes including a 22-8 advantage in the second quarter for a 73-54 win on Saturday afternoon at the Bancorp South Holiday Classic.
Rhodes shot 27-for-68 (39.7%) in the contest and 4-for-17 (23.5%) from three. They were an impressive 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the charity stripe and forced 26 turnovers on the defensive end. The Lynx held a 49-41 rebounding advantage including 18 offensive boards.
Rhodes was slow out of the gate, finding themselves down 12-4 early in the first. The lead would grow to 18-9 later in the quarter, but the Lynx would close the quarter on a 6-0 run, thanks in part to a pair of buckets from sophomore
Jessie Ustick.
Rust would lead 25-19 in the second quarter, but Rhodes responded with a 15-0 run, and end the quarter on a 18-1 run, thanks in part to multiple baskets from freshman
Moriah Muhammad, senior
Symone Daniels, and sophomore
Erin Deery.
The run would conclude at 22-1 early in the third quarter before Jasmine Golden finally snapped it with a three pointer. However, the duo of Daniels and senior
Catherine Eckert would combine to score 15 of the 19 Lynx points scored in the quarter to give Rhodes full control.

Bailey Kramer pushed the lead to as much as 24 as Rhodes was able to empty the bench en rout to the blowout victory.
Daniels was terrific, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds. Eckert shook off a slow start with 14 points and a pair of steals while Ustick added 10 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting. Freshman
Danielle Summers had six assists to go with three steals while junior
Blaire Smith added five assists, two steals, and eight points. Freshman
Allie Young had three blocked shots to go with two steals.
For Rust, Golden led the offensive output with 23 points while Demetrius Bradshaw had 17 points.
Rhodes moves back to .500 on the season at 5-5 and will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on MacMurray College in the final game of the tournament. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m.
