WOMEN'S RESULTS
DANVILLE, Ky. - The Rhodes College men's and women's cross country teams came away victorious on Saturday morning, winning their first ever Southern Athletic Association Championships since joining the league in 2012. For the women, it was their first conference title since 2010, while it was the first title since 1999 for the men.
Overall, it is the Lynx's 17th and 18th cross country conference championships in the
Robert Shankman era. It is the men's 10th overall title and the women's eighth.
On the women's side, six Lynx finished in the top nine led by senior
Brittany Alexander, who placed third overall with a time of 23:04 in the difficult 6k run at Admiral Stadium. Sophomore
Ashley Litoff placed fourth with a time of 23:17 followed by junior
Kendall Reed in fifth with a time of 23:18.
Freshman
Megan Jackson (23:51), sophomore
Reagan Alley (23:55), and sophomore
Abby Watkins (24:01) would place seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively, followed by 12th and 13th place finishes by junior
Hannah Henderson (24:11) and senior
Nancy-Margaret Wehby (24:15). Jackson's seventh place finished was good enough to earn her SAA Newcomer of the Year.
A total of eight Lynx runners were named to the All-Conference team with Alexander, Litoff, and Reed earning first team honors.
Rhodes would cruise to a first place finish with 27 points followed by Berry with 58. Centre finished third with 73 followed by Sewanee (82) and Birmingham-Southern (137) to wrap up the top five.
On the men's side, freshman
Spencer Fields led the way for the Lynx, finishing in the top three with a time of 26:46 in the 8k run. For his efforts, Fields was named SAA Newcomer of the Year. Senior Noel added a top 10 finish in seventh place, finishing with a time of 27:11, followed by freshman
Dominic Voehler (27:14.14), freshman
Adam Hearn (27:14.65), and junior James Stuckey (27:14.98) with ninth, tenth, and eleventh place finishes.
Freshman
Reece Stevens would finish with a time of 27:24 and a 14th place finish while senior
Connor Fagan placed 15th with a time of 27:29.
Seven Lynx runners would place on the all-conference team with Fields leading the way on the first team.
Rhodes finished with 40 points followed by Berry with 52. Birmingham-Southern placed third with 83 points followed by Centre (86) and Sewanee (114) to round out the top five.
The Lynx men and women will prepare to head to Winchester, Va. to compete at the DIII South Atlantic Regionals set for November 14th.
