Hazel's Second Half Goal Propels Lynx to Huge Road Win Over Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Rhodes College field hockey team earned a huge win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Centre College Colonels, 1-0, to put themselves in a position to clinch a share of the Southern Athletic Association regular season title and possibly earn the right to host the tournament next weekend.

The Lynx will need to defeat Transylvania tomorrow to share the title if the Colonels defeat Hendrix while not conceding more than one goal to host next weekend.

It was quite the battle with the Colonels on Saturday afternoon as both teams were even throughout the contest. In the first half, neither team could get on the board as Centre held a 5-4 advantage in shots while both teams got off four penalty corners.

Rhodes would begin to take control in the second half as senior Mary Rose Hazel would take a pass from fellow senior Evy Royther, and score her eighth goal of the season to give the Lynx a 1-0 advantage. Rhodes would hold off Centre while remaining on the attack, holding a 10-5 advantage in shots and an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Hazel was all over the field, leading the offense with seven shots, while Royther and junior Christina DiFelice each had a pair of shots in the contest. Defensively, sophomore Laura Eckelkamp had four saves in the contest while Rhodes got a huge performance defensively from the likes of Jordan Kugler, Katie Johnson, nad Kennedy Brislin.

The Lynx move to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the SAA. Rhodes will take on Pioneers tomorrow at 11 a.m. (ET).
