CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College Lynx went up 27-24 with 10 minutes remaining in the game on the road against Hendrix College. However, the Warriors proceeded to rattle off 21-unanswered points to take defeat the Lynx, 45-27, on Saturday night.
The Lynx drop to 4-4 overall and 0-3 on the road in 2015.
Hendrix opened the game with a bang, moving the ball 58-yards on five plays and ending the drive with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Seth Peters to Jay Jeffers for the early 7-0 lead.
The Lynx would go three-and-out, but get the ball back on the first play of the Hendrix drive as sophomore
Elliott Tostrud forced a Hendrix fumble with Rhodes recovering in Warrior territory.
Freshman
PJ Settles would strike, finding junior
Brandon Box for a 23-yard score to tie the game at seven midway through the first quarter.
Hendirx would get going, scoring the next two touchdowns on their next three drives to take a 21-7 lead at the halfway point of the second quarter.
Rhodes would have an answer as Settles moved the Lynx down the field with his feet, accumulating 41-yards on the ground and capping the drive with three yard score to cut the deficit to a touchdown.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Rhodes special teams would force a fumble and recover to give Rhodes great field position late in the first half. They would answer as Settles would find senior
Michael Shield for a 47-yard touchdown to tie the game.
Hendrix would end the half with a nine play, 48-yard drive as Steve Crenshaw booted a 34 yard field goal to take a 24-21 lead.
In the third quarter, it turned into a defensive battle as neither offense could muster anything throughout the quarter with both defenses forcing numerous three-and-outs.
Rhodes would begin an 11 play drive to start the 4th quarter, moving 61 yards and capping it with a one yard plunge from Settles to move ahead 27-21 after a missed PAT.
Though it appeared the Lynx had gained all the momentum, it would not be short lived as Dayton Winn of Hendrix would return the ensuing kickoff 88-yard to the house to put the Warriors back ahead, 31-27.
Rhodes could not respond, going three-and-out on the next drive, and Hendrix would push their lead a little further, putting together a time-consuming 61 yard drive, taking nine plays, and 4:35 off the clock to go ahead 38-27.
The Warriors put the game away for good as pressure forced a bad pass that would be intercepted by Hendrix and returned for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Settles played well at quarterback, finishing 9-for-16 for 147 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, He also was the leading rusher with 62 yards on 19 carries and two scores. Sophomore
Alex Chavez added 33 yards on 12 carries while Wiener picked up 26 yards on four carries. Shield led all receivers with two catches for 68 yards and a score. Wiener added three grabs for 44 yards while Box had two catches for 28 yards.
Defensively, freshman
Duke Sherrell had nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack to lead the way while junior
John Dodd and Tostrud each added seven tackles on the evening. Junior
Patrick West and freshman
Jack Skipper each had 1.5 tackles for loss.
The Lynx will remain on the road next weekend, heading to Danville, Ky. to battle the Centre College Colonels. Kickoff is set for 1:30 (ET).
