ATLANTA, Ga. - The Rhodes College volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon including their first Southern Athletic Association victory, defeating Oglethorpe University, 3-0, and Rust College, 3-0.
In the first game against hte Stormy Petrels, the Lynx hit .267 as a team including 37 kills and only 14 errors. Rhodes also held Oglethorpe to -.100 hitting in the match.
In the first set, the Lynx were outstanding, playing one of their best sets of the year as they hit .524 as a team including 12 kills and only one error, winning 25-9. They followed that up with 12 kills and nine errors in the second set, hitting .075 and winning 27-25, but responded by ending the match with a 25-11 win incluidng 13 kills and only four errors while hitting .360.
Freshman
Morgan Hill led the attack with 10 kills and an incredible .600 hitting percentage. Freshman
Ellen Platt followed that up with eight kills while freshman
August Bishop added seven kills. Freshman
Ana McMullen picked up 23 assists in the contest.
Defensively, senior
Maraia Tremarelli led the way with 11 digs while freshman
Caroline Perlis had five blocks while Hill and freshmen
Camila Zimmerman and
Lulu Schulz all added two a piece.
In the second match, the Lynx overwhelmed the Bearcats, hitting .463 as a team and holding Rust to a .-061 hitting percentage in a straight set win.
Rhodes hit .417 including 14 kills in the first set for a 25-12 win, .571 in the second set for a 25-4 win, and .500 in the third set for a 25-8 win.
Sophomore
Elasha Williams led the way with four kills while Bishop, Platt, and freshman
Mackenzie Capetillo all had three kills. McMullen added nine digs while senior
Dani Plata had an amazing 14 service aces in the match.
Defensively, Plata, McMullen, and freshman
Katherine Bolyard all had two digs and Bishop and Perlis each had a block.
Rhodes moves to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in SAA play. They will hit the road again this upcoming weekend, heading to Mt. Berry, Ga. to take on the Berry College Vikings. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT.
