Volleyball Knocks Off Centre on the Road in Conference Play

DANVILLE, Ky. - Behind double digit kill efforts from August Bishop, Elasha Williams, and Ellen Platt along with a 49 assist effort from Ana McMullen, the Rhodes College volleyball team pulled off a huge four set win over Centre College on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The Lynx move to 11-15 on the year and 4-9 in Southern Athletic Association play. Rhodes hit .145 as a team in the match, finishing with 55 kills to 32 errors while the Colonels hit .104 in the match with 51 kills and 33 errors.

In the first set, the Lynx hit .150 with 14 kills to eight digs while Centre had 12 kills to eight errors and a .105 hitting percentage. Rhodes would score five of the final six points to surge ahead and take set one, 26-24.

In the second set, neither team was able to hit very well with the Lynx hitting .054 and the Colonels hitting .044. Centre would bounce back in the second set, earning a 25-21 to even the match up.

Rhodes was outstanding in the third set, hitting an impressive .227 including 20 kills to 10 errors. Centre was also very good, hitting .222 in the set. In maybe one of the most exciting sets of the season, the Lynx picked up a huge win, 30-28, to take momentum into the fourth set.

The fourth set would be another evenly contested set; however, the Lynx would rise to the occasion, holding Centre to 12 kills and 10 errors with a .044 hitting percentage while the Lynx rose to the occasion with 11 kills and six errors for a .132 hitting percentage. Rhodes would hold off the late Colonel rally to clinch the match, 25-23.

Bishop finished with 15 kills while Williams added 14. Platt had 13 kills while freshman Morgan Hill added six. In addition to her huge day in assists, McMullen also had two service aces on the afternoon.

Defensively, senior Maraia Tremarelli had 23 digs while Platt had 16. Freshman Lulu Schulz had six blocks in the contest. Bishop and Hill added four and three blocks a piece.

Rhodes will close their regular season on Sunday as they travel to Sewanee, Tenn. to take on the University of the South at 1 p.m.
