Women's Soccer Sends Seniors Out with Win Over Millsaps

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes College women's soccer sent their seven seniors out on a high note on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Millsaps College in their regular season finale, 4-1.

The Lynx move to 10-5-1 overall and 5-2 in SAA play. They will host a first round SAA Tournament contest next weekend on campus.

Rhodes came out firing, outshooting the Majors, 17-3, throughout the first half. However, the Lynx could not find the back of the net throughout the first 35 minutes despite many close opportunities.

In the 36th minute, senior Shannon Donelson sent a beautiful ball into the box on a corner kick and found the head of junior Kelsey Sweeney, who finished for her fifth goal of the season, moving her into a tie for the team lead.

The Lynx would hold that lead at the start of the second half, but Millsaps would strike for a goal in the 51st minute to knot the score at one.

Rhodes would move back onto the attack, but the game would remain tied at one throughout the next 25 minutes. In the 76th minute, sophomore Hope Elliott found junior Nicolette Glidden, who finished to give the Lynx the lead for good.

From there, a barrage of goals followed as Elliott would score in the 79th minutes followed by an 83rd minute goal from sophomore Rachel Coyle thanks to an assist from senior Elizabeth Wayda. The Lynx would again outshoot the Majors, 17-3, in the second half.

Offensively, Wayda and senior Hannah Selner each had five shots while Donelson and freshman Sydnie Schindler had four shots a piece. Senior goalkeeper Chandler Kuhlman picked up a win in goal with three saves.

Rhodes will be home next weekend as they will be the No. 3 seed at the SAA Tournament. They will welcome in the No. 6 seed, Hendrix College, next weekend. Date and time have yet to be determined, but check rhodeslynx.com for more information as the week progresses.
