MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Three first half goals proved to be too much for the Rhodes College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Millsaps College in their regular season finale, 4-1.
Prior to the contest, Rhodes recognized and honored its five seniors for their final home game of the season. Rhodes would fall to 6-5-4 and 2-2-3 in Southern Athletic Association play as they will more than likely be on the road for the first round of the SAA Tournament next weekend.
The Majors were dominant in the first half, outshooting the Lynx, 16-3, and putting Rhodes in a 3-0 hole by the 21st minute. Millsaps would extend that lead to 4-0 in teh 51st minute as Rhodes struggled to counter.
The Lynx picked things up a little in the second half, outshooting Millsaps, 7-5, and actually earning more corner kicks throughout the game at 8-7. In the 77th minute, senior
Alec Rhodes got the Lynx on the board thanks to a great pass from freshman
Davis Neitzschman. It would not be enough as Rhodes would end up falling.
Offensively, Neitzschman led the attack with three shots while sophomore
Matt McKeand added two shots. Senior goalkeeper
Riley Sheen would have seven saves in the loss.
What is known is Rhodes will be playing next weekend, but what is not known in their opponent or where they will be playing as they await for the conference season to wrap up. Check rhodeslynx.com as the week pushes forward for date and time of next weekend's game.
