Aly Hoyt scored in the 49th minutes of the second half to lift the Rhodes College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Berry College, the team that came into this matchup on top of the Southern Athletic Association standings.
With the win, Rhodes has guaranteed themselves a first round matchup at home in the SAA championship in two weekends. The Lynx are now 9-5-1 on the year and 4-2 in SAA play.
Though no team could get on the board in the first half, Rhodes primarily dominated possession, outshooting the Vikings, 6-2, and holding a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Rhodes defense, led by the likes of junior

Chandler Kuhlman was terrific in goal all day as well.
In the second half, Hoyt would take advantage of a Berry turnover and roll past the goalkeeper for the easy finish and the 1-0 lead. Rhodes, again, controlled the match, playing well defensively and keeping possession in Viking territory. Rhodes would outshoot Berry, 5-4, in the second half, and 3-0 in corner kicks with most of Berry's shot coming towards the end of the match.
As Berry pressured towards the end, Rhodes continued to hold strong including a key save from Kuhlman to preserve the shutout and earn the huge SAA victory.
Hoyt led the offensive attack with three while freshman
Sydnie Schindler added two shots. Kuhlman would finished with two saves, earning her eighth win of the season and her fifth shutout.
The Lynx will conclude their season next Saturday as they welcome in Millsaps College at 1 p.m. It will be Homecoming weekend across the campus of Rhodes. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the Lynx celebrating seven seniors for Senior Day prior to the contest.
