MEMPHIS - After two straight weekends on the road, the Rhodes College women's soccer team returned home on Friday afternoon as they welcomed in the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. Junior defender
Kelsey Sweeney finished with a hat trick on the afternoon while four other Lynx got on the scoreboard in a 7-0 win.
For the Lynx, it snaps a two game skid and moves them to 3-2 overall in Southern Athletic Association play and 8-5-1 overall.
Rhodes got the scoring started early in the match as Sweeney connected with her first goal on a corner from senior midfielder
Shannon Donelson in the third minute. A little over 10 minutes later, senior
Hannah Selner moved the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal.
In the 25th minute, junior
Sarah Wachter found freshman Sydnie Schindler, who streaked down the middle of the field and finished to move the lead to 3-0, a lead the Lynx would hold going into the break.
In the second half, Donelson would, again, find Sweeney on a corner kick as she scored her second goal of the day in the 49th minute to move ahead 4-0.
Rhodes would hold the comfortable lead throughout the second half, dominating possession all throughout the game and outshooting Oglethrope, 34-0, including 17 shots on target.
The Lynx would finish with a flurry of goals in the final 10 minutes as junior
Elise Grisoni would score in the 83rd minute, Sweeney would earn her hat trick on an assist from senior
Katie Hatstat in the 84th minute, and freshman
Brenna Katz would score her first career goal in the 89th minute.
For Sweeney, she moves her goal total in 2015 to four while Donelson now had five assists on the season after two on the afternoon. Selner would score her fifth goal of the season while Schindler had her fourth goal of the year.
Rhodes will be back in action at home on Sunday afternoon as they welcome in the Berry College Vikings, who currently sits atop of the SAA Standings as of Friday afternoon. First kick is set for 12 p.m.
