DANVILLE, Ky. - For the second time in as many games, the Rhodes College women's soccer team dropped a Southern Athletic Association matchup in extra time, this time dropping a heart stopping 3-2 contest to 17th-ranked Centre College.
The Colonels would jump out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Keaghan Francis in the 10th minute, but the Lynx would respond in the 17th minute as senior
Shannon Donelson found fellow senior
Hannah Selner who put it away to knot things up at one. For Selner, it was her fourth goal of the season.
With less than a minute before half, freshman
Aly Hoyt would put Rhodes ahead 2-1 on her second goal of the year. The two teams were almost even in the first half, with Centre holding a slight edge in shots at 9-7. Rhodes would hold the advantage in corner kicks at 5-4.
In the second half, Centre turned up the pressure offensively as they looked to find the equalizer. In the 62nd minute, they would do just that as Destinie Graves tied things up. The Colonels would go on to outshoot the Lynx, 9-1, in the second half, but the Rhodes defense held strong to force overtime.
After neither team could find the go-ahead goal in the first overtime, Graves would end the match with her second goal of the day in the 102nd minute to push the Colonels past the Lynx.
Offensively, Hoyt and junior
Kelsey Sweeney led the Lynx attack with two shots a piece, while a number of different Lynx were able to get shots off as well. Senior goalkeeper
Chandler Kuhlman had a busy day in goal, picking up 10 saves in the contest.
Rhodes moves to 7-5-1 in 2015 and 2-2 in the SAA. They will return to Memphis for a Friday afternoon conference matchup against Oglethorpe University. It will be Parent's Weekend for the soccer squads as first kick is set for 2 p.m.
