JACKSON, Miss. - The Rhodes College volleyball team struggled to get anything going on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the MIllsaps College Major in Southern Athletic Association play, 3-0.
Errors proved to be costly throughout the match as Rhodes only hit .024 percent on the afternoon with only 23 kills to 20 errors. Meanwhile, Millsaps nearly doubled the Lynx kill output with 42 and 21 errors for a .153 hitting percentage.
Millsaps jumped all over Rhodes in the first set, taking it 25-14, as Rhodes hit -.024 in the set.
The Lynx looked to respond in the second and led 20-19 late in the match; however, the Majors responded by scoring six of the next eight points to overtake Rhodes and win the set, 25-22. Rhodes only hit .041 in the second set.
The final set would be the Lynx's highest hitting percentage, hitting .059, but it would not be enough as Millsaps hit .244 including 16 kills to pull away and win the match, 25-18.
Sophomore
Elasha Williams led the attack with eight kills while freshman
Ellen Platt, fresh off her SAA Offensive Player of the Week honor, had seven kills. Freshman
Ana McMullen had 19 assists.
Defensively, senior
Maraia Tremarelli finished with 16 digs while Platt added 15 and Williams had 11. Williams also had four blocks freshman
Lulu Schulz had three and freshman
August Bishop added two.
The Lynx now sit at 8-11 on the year and 2-6 in SAA play. Rhodes will look to respond on the road tomorrow as they take on Birmingham-Southern in SAA action at 12 p.m. The two teams met on September 27th earlier this season with BSC edging Rhodes in Memphis, 3-2.
