ST.LOUIS, Mo – The Rhodes men's soccer team got a much needed win on Sunday, taking down Fontbonne University 2-1.
With the win, the Lynx improve to 3-5-1 on the year, while Fontbonne fell to 2-9 with the loss.
Rhodes started off the scoring early in the first half, with
Alec Rhodes driving home an
Eric Ly pass in the 15th minute to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead.
Fontbonne responded with a quick goal to start off the second half, but
Alec Rhodes once again come up big for Rhodes with an unassisted goal with less than five minutes to play in the game. That final score proved to be the game winner, as the Lynx took home a 2-1 win.
The Lynx outshot Fontbonne 20-7, and also had six more shots on goal than the Griffins.
Riley Sheen played the entire 90 minute game in goal for the Lynx, picking up one save.
The Lynx defense played terrifically in front of Sheen, allowing only two shots on goal in the contest.
Rhodes will be on the road again next weekend as they head to Conway, Ark. to take on Hendrix College at 7 p.m. in a Southern Athletic Association game.
