Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes field hockey team grabbed their first win of the conference season on Saturday, downing Hendrix College, 2-0.
The Lynx improve to 5-1 on the year and open conference play with a 1-0 start, while the Warriors fall to 1-7 and 0-2 in Southern Athletic Association play.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle as neither team was able to get on the board. The Lynx outshot the Warriors in the first half by a count of 13-0 and took more penalty corners, 12-1.
It only took five minutes into the second half for Rhodes to break their scoring silence, when
Shauni Cowan netted a score off a
Mary Rose Hazel pass to push ahead, 1-0.
The Lynx did it again, this time an unassisted goal from
Kennedy Brislin at the 62 minute mark put Rhodes ahead 2-0. That score would hold with the Lynx opening conference play with a win.
Rhodes outshot its counterpart by a count of 26-4, and also took more penalty corners by a margin of 24-3.
Laura Eckelkamp was in the cage for the Lynx for all 70 minutes of play, and snagged three saves in the net.
The Lynx will be back on the field on Sept. 27 at Sewanee.
