Rhodes suffers heart breaking loss to DePauw in double overtime, 1-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes College women's field hockey team picked up their first loss of the season in double overtime on Sunday against DePauw University, 1-0.

The loss put the Lynx Cats at 1-1 and the Tigers at 2-0 on the season.

Rhodes was off to a slow start with a scoreless first half. While the Tigers outshot Rhodes 7-0, the Lynx Cats were able to hold them off ending the half with five saves.

In the second half both teams fought hard to get their first point, but neither squad was able to do so. It was not until the 98th minute in the second overtime that the Tigers' Paige Henry was able to score.

Although they came up short, the Lynx Cats gave a long and hard fought effort. Goalie Erin Bailey played 98 minutes and ended the game with 11 saves.

The Lynx was outmanned, falling in the shots category by a count of 16-8 and also in the penalty corner count by a tally of 21-6.

Rhodes will be back in action on Sept. 5 against Washington and Lee University at 4:30 p.m.
