Rhodes dishes Washington and Lee first loss, 2-1

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a stellar defensive showing, the Rhodes field hockey team downed Washington and Lee University on Friday 2-1.
 
The win puts the Lynx at 2-1 on the season while the Generals are handed their first loss on the year and fall to 3-1.
 
The Lynx had a balanced attack, with the first goal netted at the 18:33 mark when Evy Royther buried a Erin Best pass to push ahead 1-0. That 1-0 score would hold into the half time break.
 
In the first half, the Generals took six shots to the Lynx five, while Rhodes edged their opponent in the penalty corner category by a margin of 5-2.
 
In the second half of action, it took Christina DiFelice under five minutes to find the back of the cage, when she scored unassisted in the 40th minute to push the Lynx out to a 2-0 lead.
 
The Lynx couldn't hold the Generals scoreless, as Maggie Waxter netted the lone Washington and Lee goal in the 63rd minute. Rhodes defense held strong, posting a final score of 2-1.
 
Goal Keeper Erin Bailey had a strong showing for the Lynx, playing all 70 minutes in the cage, snagging three saves in the outing.

On the night, the Lynx were outshot by the Generals by a close margin of 9-8, but were awarded more penalty corners on a count of 8-6.
 
Rhodes will be back in action on Sept. 13, as they travel to Johns Hopkins for a 12 p.m. matchup in Baltimore, Md.
