Rhodes uses team effort to down Principia, 7-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's soccer team was firing on all accounts as they blew by Principia College on Saturday, 7-0.
 
The Lynx improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Panthers fall to an 0-2 start.
 
Rhodes put on a scoring clinic, with five first half goals. Shannon Donelson got things started, finishing a Hannah Selner pass in the bottom left of the goal in the opening two minutes of play. H. Selner dished out another assist, this time to sister Emma Selner in the 28th minute. The third Lynx goal came four minutes later when Sarah Rostamo earned her first goal of her collegiate career.
 
Rachel Coyle added the fourth goal in the 34th minute when she found the back of the net. The final goal of the half came from Hope Elliott, when she finished a rebounded ball in the left corner of the goal. The Lynx took the 5-0 advantage into the halftime break.
 
The Panthers couldn't keep the Lynx quiet when Kelsey Sweeney headed in a goal off an Addie Fargason corner kick in the 77th minute to push ahead 6-0. The final Lynx score came from the foot of Coyle, as she posted her second goal of her college career. Rhodes held on for the 7-0 victory.
 
Two different keepers earned time in goal for the Lynx, with Chandler Kuhlman getting the start, and 45 minutes of play. While in the net, Kuhlman grabbed two saves. Anna Maldonado added 45 minutes, snagging a save while in the net.
 
Rhodes outplayed their opponents in several categories. The Lynx outshot Principia by a margin of 19-5 and also were award more corner kicks by a tally of 6-1.
 
Rhodes will be back on the field on Sept. 6 as they travel to St. Louis to take on the No. 4 ranked Washington University in St. Louis Bears.
