CONWAY, Ark. – The Rhodes field hockey team picked up a win to open their 2014 campaign over Bridgewater College on Saturday, downing the Eagles 4-0.
The win advances the Lynx to 1-0, while the Eagles begin 2014 at 0-1.
Rhodes posted an active first half, with three goals in the opening period. The first score came at the 18 minute mark when
Kennedy Brislin found the back of the cage off a penalty corner to give the Lynx a 1-0 lift. Just three minutes later
Evy Royther added another goal off a
Julie Hertzman pass to push the Lynx ahead 2-0.
The final goal of the half was off the stick of
Lauren Travis, who converted another Hertzman set up to make the Rhodes lead 3-0, an advantage they would take into the half.
In the second half of play, Brislin added a second goal, again off a penalty corner to push the Lynx ahead 4-0. That score would stand as the Lynx shut out the Eagles for the 4-0 win.
Rhodes goal keeper
Erin Bailey held strong in the cage for the Lynx, as she grabbed nine saves in 70 minutes of play.
The Lynx outshot their opponents by a margin of 15-12, and also edged the Eagles in the penalty corner category with a 9-7 count.
Rhodes will be back in action on August 31, as they host the No. 20 ranked DePauw University at 2 p.m.
