MEMPHIS, Tenn – The Rhodes women's soccer program opened the regular season with a 2-0 win over Covenant College on Friday.
 
Rhodes kicks off the season with a 1-0 record, while the Scots fall to 0-1 to begin the year.
 
The first half looked to be a stalemate as both the Lynx Cats and the Scots remained scoreless until Hannah Selner connected, finding the back of the next at the 29th minute converting a pass from first-year Ellie Valega. The Lynx would take a 1-0 lead into the half time break.
 
In the second half of action, Rhodes extended their lead to 2-0 when Nicolette Glidden scored an unassisted goal in the 67th minute. The 2-0 score would stand as the Lynx took home the first win of the season.
 
The Lynx Cats outshot the Scots by a margin of 12-4, with five of the Lynx' shots on goal. Rhodes also took more corner kicks with a tally of 5-2.
 
Rhodes goalie Chandler Kuhlman ended the game with one save, earning all 90 minutes in the net for the Lynx. Covenant's net minder, Lucy Johnson snagged three saves in her 90 minutes in goal.
 
The women's soccer team will return the field Saturday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m.to take on Principia College at home.
