MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Defending Southern Athletic Assocation Champions University of the South Tigers came into the Dunavant Tennis Center and claimed a hard-fought 6-3 victory over the Rhodes College Men's Tennis Team today after falling behind 2-1 to the Lynx following doubles competition.
"The doubles we have been working on all year showed up today," said assistant men's and women's tennis coach Ryan Dodd. "I was very proud of how electric the atmosphere was for not having played more than three home tennis matches all year. The guys were really ready for this match, and it showed in our energy to take two out of the first three points."
Although
Albert Vacheron and
Daniel Olivier fell 8-2 to a more than talented third doubles team from the University of the South, first and second doubles played like veteran doubles experts in their matches.
Colin Perry and
Eliot Blatt took control of one of their best doubles matches as a tandem this season, winning 8-4 over Jackson and Cooper, and
Greyson Brilliant and
Graham Sowden closed out their match on court 2 better than they have all season, going "break-hold-break" to finish off Roddy and Winkler 8-6.
Singles play was an entirely different animal for the Lynx as the Tigers looked relaxed and comfortable on the baseline, taking four of the first five singles matches and clinching the match for the Tigers. The lone victory in singles play came on court five as
Trevor Lew battled back from dropping the first set 1-6 and claiming the second set 6-4, and a competitive third set super tiebreaker 10-8.
The Lynx are back in SAA Conference action on the road on the campus of Oglethorpe University on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m.
