JACKSON, Miss. – The No. 14 Rhodes baseball team fell in close games on Saturday to Millsaps College, 6-5 and 2-7 in Southern Athletic Association action.
Rhodes falls to 24-8 and 11-4 in league play while the Majors advance to 16-15 and 6-8 in the SAA.
In the first game, the Lynx posted the first five runs, with two in the first inning and a run in the sixth and seventh innings. The Majors mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, notching four runs. In the eighth Millsaps tied the game before pulling ahead in the bottom of the ninth.
The Lynx posted 11 hits in the loss, paced by three hits from
Justin Genter.
Bill Munson and
Ryan Olive each added a double apiece.
Adam Putnam got the start, throwing for seven innings and one strikeout.
Thomas Beamish came in to relieve and in his one and two thirds innings struck out three batters.
In Rhodes second game the contest, the Lynx again drew first blood when
Strother White scored on a wild pitch. Millsaps go on board in the second inning as well, sending three runs home. Rhodes final score would come in the third inning when
Bill Munson found his way home. The Majors posted four more runs to seal the 7-2 win.
The Lynx offense struggled, as they only notched five hits in the outing to the Majors 12.
Daniel Morris started on the hill for the Lynx, throwing three innings and one strikeout.
Max Halasz put in two innings of work, racking up two K's and zero walks.
Josh Olejnik closed the contest for the Lynx allowing only one walk in his inning of work.
Rhodes will look to bounce back on April 12 when they head to Rome, Ga. to take on Berry College.
