ROME, Ga. – In the first round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament, the Lynx downed Centre College 5-3 to advance to the second round of action.
Rhodes improves to 29-12 with the win while the Colonels fall to 13-24 on the season.
The Lynx saw their opponent post two runs in the first inning to take the early advantage. Rhodes' offense got started in the fifth inning when they broke the silence and got on the board with a
Bill Munson single to center that scored
Andrew Wallis.
In the next inning the Lynx tacked on another run, knotting things up at 2-2 when
Strother White doubled down the fight field line, scoring
Justin Genter. The seventh inning the Lynx took the lead with a pair of runs, first a Genter RBI sent home
Josh Goodwin and a
Ryan Olive RBI sent
Josh Keen to give the Lynx a 4-2 lead.
Centre's rally fell short as they added a run in the top of the eighth. Rhodes added its final score in the eighth when Brenden DePoy hit a sacrifice fly to score
Patrick Kilkenny, and give the Lynx a 5-3 victory.
Adam Putnam went the distance, throwing all nine innings and striking out eight batters. While on the mound, Putnam only gave up three hits.
The Lynx will advance to the second round of the SAA tournament and will play the winners of Berry College and Oglethorpe University on Saturday, April 26 at 12 p.m.
