MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes baseball team finished the home season in style, with a walk off RBI from
Josh Berkey to upend Christian Brothers University, 5-4.
The Lynx improve to 28-12 this season while the Bucs fall to 11-32 on the year.
Rhodes used 13 hits to CBU's 10 to overcome the Bucs, paced by two hits apiece from
Walker McWherter,
Patrick Kilkenny, Berkey and
Josh Keen. Each of Kilkenny's hits were doubles, while
Logan Booksh added a double as well.
The Bucs got on the board first, scoring in the first and fourth innings to go up 3-0. The Lynx' offense sparked in the fourth, where a Goodwin sacrifice RBI scored Kilkenny and a
Jordan Infield sacrifice RBI sent Goodwin home. Rhodes knotted it up at three all when Josh keen scored Kilkenny in the bottom of the sixth inning.
CBU broke the tie in the eighth inning. The Lynx remained scoreless for the next inning, but made the bottom of the ninth count when they charged back to take the win. A
Strother White single scored
Sam Reid to tie it up at 4-4. Berkey singled to right to get the walk off RBI scoring
Ryan Olive and securing the 5-4 win.
A host of Lynx took the mound for Rhodes, starting with Kilkenny, who threw for three innings and one strikeout.
Jake Owens tossed for an inning, followed by two innings from
Blake Glauben and two innings from
Max Halasz.
Thomas Beamish came in for the final inning and grabbed the win.
Rhodes will look forward to the Southern Athletic Association conference tournament kicking off April 25 when they face Centre College at 2 p.m. in Rome, Ga.
