MEMPHIS, Tennis. – The Rhodes baseball team posted a win over No. 19 Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday, 7-1 in Southern Athletics Association play.
The Lynx improve their record to 26-12 and 13-9 in league play while the Panthers fall to 30-10 and 17-4 in the SAA.
Rhodes got on board in the second inning when
Josh Keen singled to left field, scoring
Andrew Wallis. On the next at bat,
Bill Munson sent home Keen to lift the Lynx, 2-0.
Strother White batted in a run in the third inning, scoring
Ryan Olive pushing the Lynx ahead, 3-0. In the same inning
Josh Goodwin doubled down the left field line, scoring
Walker McWherter and
Patrick Kilkenny to post a 5-0 lead.
Rhodes added to its lead in the fourth notching a 6-0 lead. BSC scored its lone run in the seventh when Evan Grovens was hit by a pitch. The Lynx tacked on its final run when White singled down the right field line, sending home
Justin Genter in the eighth inning. The Lynx held on for the 7-1 win.
Daniel Morris got the start, throwing eight complete innings where he struck out one batter and only allowed one hit. Kilkenny came in to close the final inning, holding on for the win.
Rhodes will face off against Christian Brothers University in their final home game of the season on April 22.
