MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes baseball team couldn't stave off No. 19 Birmingham-Southern College on Friday, falling in two straight games, 5-2 and 3-2.
The Lynx are now 27-11 and 12-8 in league play while the Panthers improve to 29-9 and 17-3 in the SAA.
Rhodes fell in the first game after giving up an early lead 5-2. The Lynx, who notched seven hits to their counterparts nine, scored their two runs in the first inning. A
Ryan Olive double down the left field line scored
Bill Munson followed by a
Strother White single that would eventually score Olive.
The Panthers posted a run in the second, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth inning to take the 5-2 win.
Blake Glauben started on the hill for Rhodes, throwing eight innings and throwing five K's.
Thomas Beamish came in to close, throwing one strikeout in his inning of work.
In the second contest, the Lynx got the offense going early but again, couldn't close the contest and fell 3-2. Rhodes posted its first two runs in the first and second innings, with run one coming across home plate after
David Balaguer singled, scoring Munson. The final Lynx run cane after Brenden DePoy knocked a single to center field, scoring
Patrick Kilkenny.
BSC waited till the final inning to score, knocking in three to take the lead. The Lynx couldn't get a rally going, and fell 3-2.
Adam Putnam got the start for the Lynx, throwing for six full innings with one strikeout and six walks.
Max Halasz came in to close, throwing for one inning and while striking out one, earned the loss.
The Lynx will be back in action on April 19 when they finish the three game series with the Panthers at 1 p.m. The senior members of the squad will be honored in a ceremony held prior to the first pitch.
